IOHSAD deeply saddened by the passing of Crispin Beltran
"This is a very sad day for the Philippine labor movement. The untimely passing of Representative Crispin "Ka Bel" Beltran is a great loss, not only to his family and friends, but also for the rest of the marginalized section of our society. We are deeply saddened and condoles with his survivors," said Noel Colina, Executive Director of the Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD) speaking in behalf of staff and volunteers.
According to news reports, on May 20, 2008, Beltran fell from the roof of his home in Bulacan while doing repair work and fell head first. He was rushed to the hospital but eventually succumbed to severe head injuries.
"Ka Bel is more than the grand old man of the Philippine labor movement. He served as an inspiration to young labor activist for his enduring defence and promotion of workers rights. He is the epitome of humility and simplicity, living a workers life even to his time of death," continued Colina.
Crispin Beltran died at the age of 75 and is survived by his wife Rosario Beltran.
